Centrepoint ~ Giving Homeless Young People a Future
Set up as an emergency shelter in 1969 Centrepoint have grown into one of the UK’s leading youth homelessness charities.
83,000 young people aged between 16 and 25 experience homelessness each year. Homelessness has a detrimental impact on both the young people affected and society at large. As Centrepoint put it – “young people describe their lives as being ‘on hold’ while they are homeless”, making it tough for them to get on in life and look after their health and well-being.
There are many, often interwoven reasons why young people become homeless. Family breakdown, the transition from the care system, mental health issues, exclusion from education and lack of access to job opportunities can all play a part.
And homelessness isn’t just about sleeping rough on the streets and in doorways. It can be hidden from view. Young people may be forced in to living in temporary hostel or B&B accommodation, staying on the floors and sofas of friends, and even just acquaintances.
And like us here at Interlink Software you can help by sponsoring a Centrepoint room. Room sponsorship pays for the basic costs of providing a room – heating, lighting, bedding and hot water. Sponsorship also contributes to funding a whole host of services designed to support young people in moving on and escaping homelessness once and for all. This might be help with getting their own homes, accessing training and education opportunities, improving their basic life-skills and finding employment.

Lloyd Hopkins, Managing Director of Interlink Software: “I saw a documentary on how the charity works and it struck me as an extremely good cause, one where a small regular donation can make a huge impact for helping homeless people get their lives on track.”
